Beading Workshop

When I see paper, I see lovely chains, bracelets and earrings; I see empowered women, cheerful youths, a developed community and happy souls.
Our Beading workshop last Saturday was something special.
2:00pm, an excited Njambi walks in the Holy Eucharist Church gate, her hand carrying a plastic bag full of old calendars!
“I can’t wait to get started!”
2:10pm Janet walks in,”Hmmm… where are the rest?”
“I guess we are just about the only ones attending today’s workshop, because rest of the members are out on drama festival” I answer
2:15pm, we get started on cutting calendars, then on rolling them up and in a few minutes, the ladies seems to be catching up well……”Woow! I can’t believe this is so easy to do” Janet exclaims!
2:30pm I produce gem stones, ready varnished paper beads, bracelet wires and get the ladies excited even more!
“You two now get to design your own Friendship bracelet and carry it home as souvenir”
3:00pm, All the three of us are really busy getting the bracelets together, interesting topics come in and we get to bond more.
Janet loves to bake on her free time while Njambi loves to make crotchet designs, I love to sing!
“4:30pm, time to go home, seriously ladies…..”No one dares look at me, all eyes are on the bracelets, and so we keep going
Soon After, Brother Dalmas and his brother Dominic joins in and latter Fr.Duncan and Fr.Andrea, we engaged, laughed, shared ideas, and had a blast.
When I see such happy individuals and get to spend time with them, my purpose in life gets a broader meaning. And I am content, happy and blessed.
7:00pm….it’s time to leave, we pack up in a hurry, and just as we leave two buses comes in carrying rather exhausted youths….
”We won! We won!”The youth group managed to top in their play.
They will head to Don Bosco on 8th October, and we will have 2nd Mentor ship day on 9th October.
Hope to see you there!
